Ugly rear of the CLA and the ugly nav screen (looks like it was a last-minute addition, too small, etc) will hinder its sells (hopefully). I've seen one in town already, hope not to see too many more...

CLA is one ugly piece of metal! It shouts "I am built on FWD architecture!" from every angle. And those skinny rear tires?? Plain nonsense design exercise to me! The 2 wins anytime.

I wish the CLA's navi screen didn't look like a Tom Tom just plopped on the dash. I'm sure the BMW's power numbers are understated. Regardless, both great cars, IF an M2 does come out, it will def give the CLA a run for its money.

M-B is aggressively (and successfully I must add) targeting performance cars segment and is well on track...first their new E series (AMG) looks to be more superior than M5 and now this...
I'm not happy with BMW's prospect... they seem to be falling in 2nd place in one thing that they were good at... |

I prefer RWD and a manual transmission. I'm not all about lap times, I like how a car feels. The M235i is looking like a real stunner. This forces me to stick with BMW in this situation. CLA45 is a great car for what it is, I'm sure. Just not for me. And it looks... just plain weird. |

The CLA is a nice car, but to me it looks like a banana! Impressive engine and good work on the whole car, but i don't like the new Merc styling so much.
The 2er it's better look wise, we have to wait to judge the rest of the car.

I expect far more differences on chassis, suspensions, brakes, and transission than the engine for the M2.

Not to be a fanboy (I'm certain the Merc is good and will outperform the M235i) but the BMW wins hands down in the looks department by a clear mile. It is a genuinely really good looking car, future classic.

Let's be realistic here. We speculate that the output of the M2 will be ~370 hp. That's right in between the M235 and the M3/4. To get the N20 there, that would require a 130 hp boost. That would also break the current record of hp/liter which is held by the CLA45 AMG. Maybe stroke the N20 to 2.3 liters, maybe. Or, the M division takes the N55 and increases it by another 35 hp. The 1M is an I6 TT. The M3/4 is an I6 TT. I'm seeing a trend here. I'm being realistic and not letting wishful thinking takeover. |

The CLA engine is definitely impressive. From what I've seen in reviews of the performance, it's a homerun for MB. However, and probably because of my bias towards BMW, I dislike the busy interior. Exterior wise, it's a very awkward looking car. The overhang of the nose over the front wheels is .... ummm ... interesting, and overall the car looks like a painted dinosaur turd on wheels.

they are between a I4 and an I6.... If they put an I4 it will be harder for people to tune it to M4 numbers than if they put a detuned I6 like in the F80 we'll just need to wait 2 years to find out Also I can say: M5 went from V10 to V8 M3 went from V8 to I6 so 1M will go from I6 to I4 see the trend there ? |

I'm also surprised to read that most of the BMW winner points here are focused on its looks and design rather than performance and technical features!!!
Ofcourse, the 2 series is a much better looking coupe, but is that enough to win the game?! If I wanted a better looking car, why bother paying G's more and get a M?? I would just opt for a normal 2 series. Probably M-B fans are laughing at us reading how impressed we are with M2's "bumper and interior design"...and not looking at technical features and how M-B's impressive technical performance is winning in every corner (if not a tie). BMW needs to smell the coffee again soon before falling into a ME2 position...that's my 2 cents. |
