Where to buy these 'tension struts' and did it only cause your wheels to require spacers (or do i misunderstand something).
I know Marco Polo brought his car from Eibach to M235i stock front springs because of the side affect of the LCA's (rubbed icw pss 245) Edit: Found the partnumbers for the tension struts + understand why the spacers are required. Do you have spec for the spacers (I read how thick, but don't know where/what to purchase) Last edited by Kasteel; 04-29-2016 at 05:07 AM.. Reason: Stupid |

Glad you got them in,
I ended up putting in larger spacers, I used 1/2 on the inside and a 1/4" on the outside with a 1" od, 1/2 ID. Summit had them, they also have them in 1.5 OD, but were out of stock, I will prob. order those next time from them. I also noticed on mine, it pushed the wheel further out, so The track width is more in line with a m3/m4. I am now running 15mil spacers in the rear and 7 mil in the front. Before I ran 12 mil in the front. That gives me a track width difference of .9 inches. 62.4 in the rear, 61.5 in the front. That is on oem wheels. |

correct, I noticed some marring on the spacers, so I think they were moving a bit. I did some additional measurements on the bushing and the carrier (stock), and I was off by about 2 mm.
I also looked at an m4, and took a measurement on the sub frame location, I realized I needed more outboard spacing (4 mm) to keep the geometry close as possible to m4. So these were the closest imperial spacers I could get. |

If so it won't work for me as I'm running 8" x et34mm on lowered springs and I wouldn't won't top of the tyre any closer to the wheel arch else it will rub. BP

I think it does, but it gets somewhat negated by pushing the lcas back a bit. But et 34 might be tight on lowering springs depending on camber. IE prob not the best. Also you could prob. control by spacer width placement, but not sure on the engineering effects. |

Suspension update
What did I do: - ordered LCA: 31122284529 / 31122284530 - ordered TS: 31122284531 / 31122284532 - informed BMW dealer with forum threads, pictures and possible troubles (xenon, spacer etc) What did BMW do: - placed LCA+TS - ordered the spacers - solved the xenon hight thing - alignment Results: - more steeringfeel - stiffer front - 2degree camber on front - big more caster Difference between only mounting the LCA's - less caster (less clearance issues later) - bit more camber |

Kasteel,
Do you have the part numbers for the spacers and how they were fitted by BMW during Tension struts install. BP

BP, there weren't parts that fit, its handmade by the local metal-shop; on request with the help of the pictures . When I get the invoice I get perhaps more detailed info about the specs (so people can order it in preperation).

id can be 1/2 or so, (some spacers are like .502) If you look at the stock one it has a large channel, and even with an m12 (oem m3/4) bolt there is still some space. You could play with spacer sizes and that would effect where the ts falls, less on the outboard should bring the wheel in, more on the inboard should bring the wheel out, if your real tight on wheel clearance.

Since the TS is sorta diagonal from the wheel center, we're really talking about how loaded the inboard LCA bushing will be. Prolly wanna shoot for as close to F8x specs as possible, no?

Sorry guys, been working 12 hour days for the past 18 days my cognitive capacity is starting to wane.
Yes I would not move much if any from stock. I think you would wear the bushings at an accelerated rate. If you add width to the spacer closest to the fender, and remove width from the spacer closest to the engine this would push the wheel further out. Vice versa would move the wheel further in. |
