Can I drive an m235i 15 hours on possibly the stock charge pipe?
Hello,
I'm new to the forum and just purchased a beautiful 6mt m235i. Only concern is a 15 hour drive from where the car was to where I am in Louisiana. The previous owner took great care of the car, but doesn't know if the charge pipe was upgraded or replaced. Is it a concern driving this car with 80k miles back home? Thanks everyone |

You’ll be fine
Just take it easy and don’t push it hard, it won’t break You can look right next to the intake, the charge pipe will be connected to the throttle body. If it’s plastic, it’s OEM, If it is aluminum or hard metal it is aftermarket. If it is the stock one I’d replace ASAP. Especially if you’re gonna push the car or add power. Mine broke at 45k and the car was not driven very hard. |

You’ll be good just take it easy and drive normal. I drove from GA to IL when I bought mine and then did the chargepipe and other mods down the road.

Just grab some heavy duty Gorilla "duct" tape. In the very rare chance it breaks, simply tape it back up and don't go heavy throttle, especially in a tall gear and at a low rpm (3500rpm and below). Heavy throttle in situations like this creates a lot of boost and rapidly because of the heavy load.

I drove mine 4hrs to get it home after I bought it. After reading all the stories of of the CP exploding for no reason, I stopped by a local (to where I picked up) home depot and picked up some stainless steel zip ties and put one on either side of the CP retaining clip prior to the long return drive.
I have no idea if it kept the CP from exploding, but I figured some additional support couldn't hurt LOL. |
