OP (and anyone else who had this done at a dealer):
Did you ask - or did the dealer offer - to let you have the OEM open diff back, or did they just keep it? Thanks. Charlie |

I got mine back, in the box that the new one came in. It's been sitting in my garage, taking up space since then.

*Cries in Canadian dollars
https://shop.bmw.ca/p/BMW__/BMW-M-Pe...108659987.html Looking at $6k for the diff alone, and that's not the exchange rate talking. Yeah I think a call across the border to diffsonline is the way to go pretty soon. |

BMW made the M2 for the buyer who wants his 2 Series car to come with an LSD already installed.
We, OTOH, don't pay for one in the purchase price and get to choose from a variety of available LSDs.

I would have gladly paid 1500-2000 USD more for the car if it came with the MP LSD from the factory, or was available as a factory installed option.

BMW already manufactures a LSD for this car (P/N 33-10-8-659-987), so it would be simple for BMW to offer the LSD as a factory-installed option. It's even simpler than offering two transmission options for the car.

My guess would be 319 +/- 50. BMW must have considered offering the option; it would be interesting to find out the rate at which the company thought it would sell. If I'd ordered my car and the option had been available, I would have added it to my order. I've got no complaints about having bought the Wavetrac, though.

After test driving and reading equipment specs for 230i and 240i, the BMW data I recall indicated the 240i had a limited slip. Is this incorrect?
IÂ’ve often thought of installing a limited slip. Since ordering and receiving my 2020 230i manual trans, I installed the Dinantronics X tuner and solid aluminum turbo discharge pipe. I replaced the stock plastic & rubber rear subframe bushings with Turner Motorsports solid aluminum bushings (with no ride compromise). At the time of bushings install a 19mm Dinan rear anti roll bar was fitted. Those two items vastly transformed turn in, cornering & directional stability, steering accuracy and rear wheel grip. Loss of rear wheel grip is far reduced with on-off power application in transient maneuvers and cornering. High speed control and road feel is much more predictable. Has anyone adding a limited slip upgraded any rear suspension components? |

I had Turner's aluminum subframe bushings installed at the time I had an LSD installed. I also had Koni double-adjustable rear shocks installed, along with 600# rear springs.

I get pretty nasty axle hop with 1st gear wheelspin, especially in the rain. Is this solved with stronger subframe bushings? I couldn't imagine any other significant advantage to aluminum bushings.

Turner doesn't appear to offer the solid bushings anymore, but they do still offer the Delrin/aluminum set of bushings: https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-4...4-f32-f33-f36/. From that page: Performance Benefits:

That’s unfortunate bushings are not longer being made. I’m curious why. Mine were just ordered in Dec of ‘21 from ECS, Turner’s parent company. No longer available from them either. Appears they’ve replaced it with aluminum + Delrin sleeve design. The Turner part # I ordered was 021450TMS01.
Former all aluminum bushings (and subframe), and current Delrin style attached. Last edited by GoldenWest; 02-14-2023 at 12:28 AM.. Reason: Explanation/ differentiation added. |

My view is that they're something that would normally go into a track car or a race car, and there are few of those among non-M 2 Series and 3 Series owners in this era.

I think the perceived result with solid bushings compromised ride and comfort. As I mentioned, there is absolutely no compromise or increased noise, vibration or harshness (NVH) with Turner Motorsports solid aluminum bushings, which only serve to keep the rear end infinitely more planted. They also vastly improved gas on-gas off rear end stability in straight line acceleration and transient maneuvers.
I thoroughly scoured forums and input from those who pulled the trigger before ordering. They (surprisingly) confirmed only upside, with no downside. In fact, increased stiffness came from the 3 way adjustable Dinan rear bar, not the bushings. In position #1, the car’s ride feels stock. Going up incrementally, I feel increased rear suspension stiffness and quicker, more direct turn in. |

Thoughts On Differential Bushings
I have just ordered a M Performance differential for my 2015 M235i and these posts have me thinking about what else I should be looking at when I make the swap: anyone have any feedback on the numerous rear bushing inserts, both subframe and differential bushings?

Great place to go to. I've been going there for about 20 years and have been very pleased.
Dan and Dave really do great work, have fair prices, and know BMWs inside and out. They get everyone from track addicts to daily drivers. Dave races, so is keenly aware of performance and BMWs. The are big supporters of the BMW Car Club as well. I highly recommend them. For my 2015 F22, I had the LSD added as a port option, when I bought it. |
