Coolant Flush
2018 230i, 15,600 miles. Car is garaged when not driven.
Dealer quoted $310 plus tax for a coolant flush. I asked my SA what he thought, and he said he would not do it with my mileage. Meaning he would not spend the $$$ The closest reputable indy shop is 2 hours each way. DIY is not a possibility. I am very familiar with Mike Millers Maintenance schedule. My SA said, eventually the thermostat will need replaced and he would wait. Thoughts, opinions, suggestions? |

I haven't done my 2018 M2. Get the coolest tested to see what temperature it is still good at until it freezes. Most likely it will be way below the coolest temperature in your winter. If not, then change it.

If you're out of your free maintenance period (used to be 4 years, now 3), you should consider that Independent BMW shop instead of the dealership for routine maintenance like this and brake fluid flush. Check your owner's manual for recommended intervals/mileage for these items.

Your mileage and years are really low. Seems like it's a waste.
Buy a coolant tester. My M235 is nearly 5.5 years old and 55K miles and the stock coolant still tests well within spec. Same goes for our 6.5 y/o 2015 Subaru Outback with 70K miles which has a more "open" cooling system (i.e., I can access the fluid in the radiator and the overflow is simply a snap on cap, not threaded and pressurized like BMW's). Coolants are way more robust than they were even 10 years ago. Brake fluids and engine oils really seem to be the fluids that fall out of spec fairly quickly.

I essentially haven't had a choice... Just crossed 23k and got my 2nd "low coolant" light. Mine seems to be on the continuous flushing plan. What gives?!

I got my 18' couple months ago from around 23k miles, Im now about to hit 29,999 today. Never had low coolant light. Most likely a leak somewhere in yours. |

Unexplained coolant loss in the B58 motor is VERY common, especially in 2016-2020 B58s used across all BMW makes including the M240. Do a Google search or even a search of this forum and F3x forums.
