LOL. Sooo true. Great tips ... I really do love my M240 though.

Ugh. More mods. Yup. I was looking that up. That will fit the xDrive?

Well, one less mod to worry about. No, it won’t fit xDrive. You should test drive a rwd car to feel the difference, even without the LCAs. Then, decide if xDrive is worth it next time. After I did an A/B comparison, I knew I wouldn’t want xDrive on my 2 all year long for the steering feel difference you described. Winter tires handled snow just fine for a few months.

Adjustable Camber Plates will allow the same negative camber adjustment to sharpen the steering feel as an option for Xdrives.
Although maybe I'm just used to the extra weight upfront, from driving my E46 and other FWD cars, the steering doesn't bother me. No dead spot on highway either that's been commented on. I'm curious if the steering rack can be swapped with the M2? They are different (part #'s) although I can't find any specs on them. Still hating the lack of a Dipstick, lol and still hating the dumbed down HK Audio with lack of any freq. band adjustment. |

I still don't regret getting an RWD instead of an AWD though. The ~400hp '79 Buick I owned as a teenager was terrifying just on wet pavement. A modern RWD BMW is just mildly alarming by comparison. |

Still a distant second to dedicated winter tires however...although having both is the very best one can do for winter.

I like to ease off the brake for the last foot or two of a stop to let the front rise and make the cessation of motion imperceptible. It's not important, but it pleases me. My 240 is the most difficult car for this of any I've driven. The brakes seem to grab harder as the car stops and I find it very difficult to ease off just the right amount so I usually get a bit of a jerk just as the car stops. I'm planning to change to aftermarket brake pads to try to fix this when the originals wear out. Any suggestions?

The clothes hanger hooks are indeed terrible, but for a pittance, you can buy an aftermarket hook that clips onto the rod that holds the headrest. I have them on both my BMWs, including the X3, which has a decent hanger. These are much better and work very well. I can't give you a reference but they are easy to find online.

Try doing a bedding procedure on your current pads to see if that helps. I don't have those problems modulating brakes, but perhaps I'm not as particular? Factory pads should be the best for this, any aftermarkets are likely to trade 'good manners' for low dust, or sport-worthiness. I will say that these brakes are more direct than other brands (when I borrow more pedestrian cars), so it may also be a matter of getting your foot acclimated to this system.

Yes, there are OEM hangers, but they cost many times more than the little hooks I mentioned and are quite bulky. Whatever floats your boat.

I hate the Spring pollen in NorCal. Wash the car one day and leave it out for 10 minutes and it's green. Which leads me to what I hate about my BMW; the half inch the window goes down so the door will shut. I'm so anal that I take a feather duster and clear the window so the crud won't go down into the channel. Same thing with dust. Or a towel when the window is wet. Do I need psychological help?

Winemaker: you are way beyond psychological help.
Lock him up! Lock him up! I can understand your frustration, but I am not sure that hate is the right term here. It is hard to imagine that the folks at BMW could have imagined the scenario that has driven you to distraction. |

Morph, I know, I know. I also make sure screw heads are perfectly aligned. You're right about using the term hate, but how could I transition into this thread. To be honest there isn't anything I "hate" about my BMW.

Scale for measuring opinions for the history of the world before Millennials:
Love it....Like it Alot....Like It Somewhat....It's OK....Dislike it Somewhat....Dislike it Alot....Hate It Since Millennials: Love it/It's Amazing..Hate It

Been lurking here for several months. I think I'll be ready to move up to a 6MT M240i at the end of the year (currently driving a 2010 WRX 5MT hatch). I'll probably aim for a 2018 or newer — maybe a CPO.
This thread has been really great. I test drove an 8AT 2020 M240i coupe today. And, instead of being annoyed by things like the way-back-there seatbelt, double-press to turn off, double-pull on the door latch to unlock, and others, I knew to expect them. So, I had my expectations set instead of finding annoyances. I'm very thankful to y'all for that. It was a great test drive! |
