228i black eyelids
I've been searching, and is this even a possibility? I'm just trying to get rid of that chrome eyelid look on my current headlights. Any ideas would be great.

Someone (Bimmian maybe) has a body colored eyelid you can buy and stick ok in essence making the lamp appear to be smaller and covering that area.
Another option is someone was taking the housing apart blacking out the internals then resealing but this was not always done perfectly and resulted in leaks and digging issues. EDIT: Bimmian calls them headlight reflector covers.

Looks good. Did you buy direct from Xpel? Also, what size did you use? I'm gonna give this a go next weekend.

You can get carbon fiber eyelids on eBay that cover the bit of silver on top. There are a number of vendors that sell them for about $60 from China, and they come with thin VHB tape. Will have to see how they hold up over the next year. Even if they get sun damaged I'll probably paint them to get rid of the silver.
Here are the ones I bought: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dry-Carbon-...72.m2749.l2649

I bought some fibreglass ones off ebay. I wasn't completely sold on the look but it was growing on me. Problem was, first time on the highway they BLEW OFF! The supplied tape didn't stick very well to the rough back of the eyelids! I'm trying to get the vendor to replace them.
UPDATE: The vendor came through and sent me a replacement set at no cost. I installed with extra tape and they've been fine so far. All that said, I'm still not sure that I like the look of them on a white car. Last edited by Lipper; 08-04-2018 at 06:57 PM.. |

Have to say that you have to take your time to put these on. The eyelids I bought were made to fit the headlight, but there aren't any guides or stops you can rely on for exact placement. If you don't get them on right there won't be adequate tape contact and certainly they could come off. I did a better job with the second one I put on (driver side) and there are no issues. The first one did not adhere great a small section about 1.5" from the grille. You can feel the tape is not secure in that area but the rest of the part is very secure. It hasn't been an issue except that I know it isn't right. Best method would probably be to place them on the headlight with no tape, mark with a pen, then apply tape and line up to the marks. Unfortunately I didn't think about this until after they were on.

My solution (which is still working after over a year) I used black RTV silicone as an adhesive/sealant. Has worked like a charm, sealed all edges against wind/water and is more than sufficient to adhere a piece that only weighs a few grams. AND... it's easily reversible. |

It does not just peal off, but it's a lot easier than double-sided tape (when it finally works) Last edited by zentanker; 04-01-2019 at 08:47 PM.. |
