Used m235i CPO Inspection
Hi,
I've been looking to buy a used m235i for a while. I finally found one spec'd out the way I wanted it. It's quite far so the dealer agreed to ship it to me after the purchase. I want to go inspect it in person but my schedule is tight right now I might not be able to find the time. How important is it to have the car inspected before buying given that it is CPO? Are most issues covered under CPO? It has 3 years remaining on it with unlimited miles. If I went to inspect it in person, I wouldn't know what to look for outside of exterior dings, curb rashes and MAYBE unexpected noises from moving parts. Where would I go about finding a trusted mechanic for pre-purchase inspected in a different state? Thanks! |

If it's coming CPO, you have no concerns. Any concerns post purchase can be taken up with your local dealer, fully covered. I bought mine which was an exec. CPO with 5 years of warranty (3 year factory remaining, 2 additional for CPO) and they've only had to do basic maintenance. I have 40k kms and it drives as it did with 10k kms, no hiccups at all..

I couldn't buy something as pricey as a car w/o seeing it in person first.
As far as pre-purchase inspection - isn't it best to use a BMW dealer that will hand you a document listing what they inspected and what the results are ? As far as CPO, as much as it gives some piece of mind it basically a marketing tool as opppsed to an inspection that determines if a product meets a high standard. |

As ScottSinger mentioned, the dealership should be able to provide you with a copy of the CPO report that documents what the service department noted during the CPO inspection. Additionally, you can request the dealer provide a service history of the vehicle prior trade in, assuming all the service work was conducted at a BMW dealership.

If you were a BMWCCA member you could ask a local member to go to sellling dealership to inspect the car. You do realize the pitfalls of CARFAX. You need to decide if you can trust the dealer...I personally don't have enough experience to know how dealers behave. Last edited by overcoil; 12-26-2017 at 04:13 PM.. |

If a person has repairs done out of pocket.
http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cult...s-with-carfax/ I'd like to see you get a 235, it's a crazy excellent car. I don't care what one thinks is a little or a lot of money - but laying out this kind of cash sight unseen is risky. |

I'd see it in person first. I went to check out a few CPO 235's before I bought mine and they were pretty roughed up... terrible door dings, scratches, leather wear etc that didn't show up at all in the pictures.

I saw one with an accident that was CPOd when I was looking. Buyer beware. Clean carfax too. CPO doesn't mean much anymore. In most cars I was looking at it extended the warranty out another 12-18 months. But yeah. Always paint meter and have visual on the car ( either yourself , third party inspection company or someone you trust ).
