Hello all,
Tonight I finally did some coding to my '16 M235i. First thing I did was ASD off and drove a quick up and down my street and though I do miss the sound, it was so synthetic that now I can hear my actual engine noise instead. This will take a little getting used to. Also coded the auto mirror folding comfort access and quickly learned that I need to hold the finger on the handle for about 3-4 seconds before it activates. Can anyone confirm that the time delay can be changed to instant? I also tested the "all windows down" feature that came stock with the car by holding the unlock button on the fob and then by holding the button on the door handle raised up all the windows along with folding the mirrors together. On that note, has anyone found whether or not it could be coded to close all the windows by holding the lock button on the fob? Just curious as I never tested this at all? I also coded the speedometer on the dash without any issues. Also coded video in motion along with rear-view camera de-active when speeds up to 50km/h. Removed the disclaimer upon startup of vehicle. Coded that the vehicle will use my phone's ringtone when a call comes in rather than using the bmw default. That's all for now as I don't see anything else that's too interesting for me to code. So far, loving it...

I downloaded app, unlocked coding, bought the OBD reader, but it was a bluetooth version, so waiting on the WIFI one to come.
Do you leave car running when coding? Do you have to go into expert mode for most of the changes or only for the more challenging things explained on this thread?

Expert mode is for advanced options; you shouldn't have to go into it for most stuff. |

New to BMW
BMW newbie here. Coming from VW/Audi I'm familiar with using VAGCOM/VCDS and OBDEleven.
For F2x (I have a M235i) series, is Bimmercode the one to get or is Carly still the ref std? I'd like to make std changes and do a some expert coding once in a while. |

Just bought. Am a fan.
So easy. One thing I didn’t realise is that you can do unlimited cars with the purchase, I thought it would be restricted to one vehicle. Had I have known, I would have asked a guy at work with a BMW 135 which I know he tinkers with. Oh well, I know a guy at work with an X5 who would gladly have a couple of options adjusted. |

Hey bryan_f22,
I changed the background screen also. It seems to work every time with the radio on, but not if I powered the car down while using Nav or Bluetooth music. Just a weeks worth of observation. Worth getting rid of the disclaimer tho! |

the radio/nav screen will show BMW Connected in animation on startup.
Your supposed to be able to change this so a ///M logo appears.

Oh, ok. I thought you guys were talking about a background in a menu, not the boot screen. I changed my boot screen using Carly, along with the boot logo on the instrument cluster. I had changed to M Performance where M235i normally would be when the ignition is on, but when I messed with Carly again just now, I lost that for some reason (doesn't bother me enough to put it back again for now).
BTW, do you know if there's a way to force the boot screen to happen? Is it timed? Sometimes, if I just restart the car not too long after the car was on, it doesn't show you the boot screen. |

i tried every option for boot screen, and every type and it still just stays with the BMW Connected screen.
if you unlock the car and start it within 1 min, it will show the boot screen, if you dont do it in that order, it wont. I did some research today. You can reboot the headunit by holding down the power button until it resets, than you will see it.

Interesting. With Carly, I was successfully able to change to M Performance (the one in the above video) from this.
I tried starting the car within 1 min of unlocking and did not show the boot screen. Maybe I need to leave the car alone for X amount after locking, then come back and start the car within 1 minute of unlock. My car usually stays unlocked in the garage so when I locked it then unlocked to start, it was still on the last screen. As for rebooting the headunit, I read elsewhere before that holding the power button resets, but didn't work. I just tried again just in case for 40 some seconds without luck. |

At the very least, code the car while the battery is connected to a charger/tender. |

Got my vgate and unlocked coding on Bimmercode this weekend. So far I have only disabled the seat belt reminder gong, boot up warning, and tried using the M Performance boot screen.
Disabling the seat belt gong(worth the price of vgate+unlock coding alone) and boot up warning worked great, but the M performance screen shows for <1 second like posted before. Its unfortunate because it closes and just goes to the Nav's loading screen. I wonder if there's a way to adjust its play length somewhere? |

There was a post in this coding forum some time ago with people talking about coding in the different animations why they didnt always work and I believe the consensus was in order to see the longer animation, you had to have given the ECU enough time to shut off after ignition off (maybe 25 minutes or longer) and you also had to have the display showing anything BUT the Map screen. If the last screen you had up was the map, you just got a very brief animation playback time, but if you had something like the radio display up, you got the longer animation playback.
At least that's what I notice. I coded the M Performance animation using ESYS last year and in the morning, after the car has been sitting all night, if my display had been on the radio or one of the other screens the night before, I get the full 4 second or more video to playback, but had it been set to the Map, which is how it normally is, it just plays back for maybe 1 or 2 seconds and then brings up the map display. Try that and maybe it will work for you guys... Madmatt

You didnt code anything, you simply activated the setting Eco Pro Info. To toggle between the two different displays while in eco pro mode, simply go to settings/instrument cluster/ and check/uncheck eco pro info. When its checked you get the blue charge meter. When its unchecked you get the fuel meter.

So what happens when you use this app to make additional changes when your car is already coded using the prior E-sys method?
