I wonder when the b58's are going to stop having teething problems.

This is interesting, I wonder how tuning will be for the new B58 in comparison to the N55 that's been around longer... I'm sure it'll follow the same struggles any new engine does on the market, at first.

Massive downer for me is that BMW has continued with the crazy practice of mounting the VANOS units and cam timing chain at the REAR of the engine. Even the oil filter assembly is inaccessible to the rear. So a job like replacing the VANOS solenoids will require full engine removal! See here:

These are three different cars: 220d, 220d, 220d. Which makes the most power, which is likely the most expensive, which one might be the quickest, which one might be the most economical? Tough to guess, right. Now try it with these: 225d, 218d, 220d. ? The numbering system is fine, it used to be the capacity that made the difference, now it isn't, how would they best communicate the differences now without completely changing the naming structure? |

Damn! 0-60 in 4.2.. Why wait for an M2 when the M235i is praised for its handling also..What in the world is BMW doing to them selves..There has always been a gap in performance with each model..The models are falling on top of each other with these stats.:

This car will be fantastic. The B58 is a wonderful engine and if you don't care about the track goodies the M2 has the M240 seems to have a superior power plant. As mentioned a conservative map 1 JB4 is putting down wicked power for just a tune.

People are still upset about the model designation not matching displacement?....

That would be tragic.
Not offering the combination of xDrive and manual transmission in the USA is a BIG marketing mistake. Just look how popular the old 3-series models were with this combination, and how popular manual transmissions are in Europe. Many more people would buy manuals here too if dealers had them in stock on their lots. A major reason that many of us starting buying BMWs in the first place was the universal availability of a manual transmission. BMW North America please support your loyal customer base! |

It's not abiut numbers. It's about character and DNA. The M2 still fills it's role, and I'm happy that people can get a great car in the M240i without waiting 2 years. Win win for everyone! Well done BMW. |
