M235i Tuning
Hi all just want to share some advancements we've been making with the N55 engine with regards to tuning.
As we know the M235 utilises the N55 engine with a claimed flywheel power of 245kw... real world though, they seem to be dynoing rather high as we see results from 215-225rwkw, indicating that they are likely a tad underrated. Conversely, the 335i/435i that are rated at 225kw flywheel seem to be spot on dynoing around 185-195kw at the rear wheels. This is one of our customer's cars who has had a JB4 for about 12 months now and recently got in touch with us to see if there was anything new we could do for more power. We suggested removing the piggyback and going for a proper flash tune. (The car also has a downpipe with high flow cat) The method was: 1. Powerrun 'as is' with the JB4 in to set a benchmark (237rwkw) 2. Remove JB4 and do a stock run (220rwkw - not far off the very first dyno run we did with this car approx 18months ago of 217rwkw) 3. Upload flash tune for final run (261rwkw) Both us, and the customer are very pleased with the results. If anyone is interested in more info or would like to get this dyno to their M235i get in touch with us via www.bmraw.com. For 220i & 228i tuning see this thread Last edited by Stuart@BMRAutowerkes; 06-02-2016 at 03:10 AM.. |

Interesting post Stu, My car made 205rwkw stock and 230rwkw with the Dinan tune on a dyno dynamics dyno. I'm surprised your stock reading is high. I am going to install an ESS Etronic and see what that makes and then i might flash it after that as well to test results. I'll let you know, if you want. I'm surprised with JB4 results though.

I think your dyno has always been a bit on the happy side though. Good gains over stock is that main thing that can be confirmed.

Here's some free advertising for you Stuart!
Got my flash tune done at BMRAutowerkes today (plus my mate's M135i as well). Both cars are stock except for M235i with a Milltek Cat-back exhaust. The M135i with resonator delete and custom muffler from HiTech. In the 2nd pic, the M135i is compared with a JB4 tune as well. M235i M135i There was also another M135i there with a catless DP which did 270kw. Always great spending some time with the boys at BMR always some great chat and banter.

Although I havent had stu do a flash tune on my car, he has sorted me out with numerous mods and would highly recommend dealing with him. Future mods will def be a flash and will be seeking the guidence from brm autowerks.
