My sister ruined my 2 series, can I trade it in for M235xi
This is going to sound really stupid, I know but I'm beyond pissed right now.
My sister ruined the passenger door backing out of the driveway, and she ruined the resale value of my 2015 228xi. I'm financing my car with $18,000 left. Car has 10K miles Does it make sense for me to transfer that loan over to a new M235xi? Does anyone know if its financially worth it? I don't want to drive a car thats been ruined because of something stupid like this. Thanks |

Sorry but without more detail this sounds idiotic.
What did she do that can't be repaired under insurance? You have sunk a large amount of money into the car already. You are welcome to sell the car but you are going to get the depreciated value, minus the $18k you owe towards the new car. I'm confused as to why the car has been "Ruined" and why the door can't be repaired?

It can be repaired under insurance, but I feel like the car's ruined. I feel like everytime I see it I'm gonna feel that its not gonna be the same as it once was. Almost like a girl that you thought was perfect that you find out slept with 20 guys.
Im just thinking if at this point it would be financially wise to just trade it in and pay off the rest on a 235xi. |

Not the end of the world... or your car.
I had a nearly new Mercedes that got hit in the right front fender and passenger door. I took it to a local, highly rated auto repair shop and got it fixed. Insurance paid full pop. All of the damaged parts, including the door and fender were replaced with factory new parts. You'd never know the accident happened.

Otherwise, don't do it. Money may only seem like a number and that straight 6 in the M235i might be calling for you, but don't do it. You'll be happier taking the money you saved and investing it somewhere else. |

Is this your first car? It's a bunch of metal parts, not a girlfriend. Would you not date a girl if she'd broken her arm in the past? Your resale value isn't ruined. Minor effect, if anything at all. Your car is just fine and in no way, shape or form "ruined". Enjoy it and worry about more important things in life. |

If you can afford a M235...THEN WHY THE HELL NOT? You'll be making the payments. I see where you're coming from, you don't view your car the same way. If getting a M235 will give you that pleasure of driving/looking at YOUR car that doesn't have an STD then why the hell not trade it and get an m235. You won't regret getting the M235 trust me. Best of luck! |

I'm assuming if it's your first car you're under 20, have a very nice set of parents who are willing to take on the rest of your life debt while you put all of your money into a car.
Stop over reacting. It's a car, and it is going to get nicked, scratched, and bumped. Trading it in for a 235 would likely put you another $10k+ in the hole, which is pointless debt to have. And there's nothing to say your sister won't back into that one in another 6 months or have it wrapped around a tree if it's your first car. (I can not imagine handling 320hp responsibly at that age). My first car was a 1989 Chrysler New Yorker. You should fix the door, thank your parents, and remember in 6 months when you're recovering from another accident that you have a lot to learn. /damn kids

I remember the first car I purchased new. Not long after, I was rear-ended. I'll always remember what my dad said..."They make 1000's of cars in Detroit, but they only made one of you". A bit dated now, but the meaning is still clear. I got it repaired at a quality shop, and got well over 125K miles out of it. Cosmetic damage is easy to deal with, frame and suspension damage is a bit tougher. And, about the girl previously with 20 other guys... A fellow could have some really good times with a girl like that. Experience can add a lot... |

Man...I was rear ended with 600 miles on my car....$11000+ in damages. The repaired it and it runs beautifully. The appraiser said the body guys did a top notch job. Yes the value is tainted for resale...but I did not buy it to sale it! I bought it to drive it! Now I can drive the wheels off it. If I decide I want sonething else I can hand a good car down to my daughter who rurns 16 in a couple of years. I

My car must have "acne" because of the rock chips to the front bumper...should I trade it in for a new M4? Please tell me what to do and how to spend my money, people I do not know or know me?
They should re-name this site "2Fanatics" or "2Idiots" after reading some of these posts. Talking about "rich kids" or entitlement, I love the posts wherein some guy has his car for one day and already dumped another $25,000 in wheels, tires, suspension, brakes, interior bits, exterior bits, engine upgrades, and paint making a $50,000 car a $75,000 car without turning a mile yet. Or the ones where people complain because they don't like amber reflectors or lights on their car and they are "losing sleep" about the issue. The ones that post the question of "should I buy a 235i, Mercedes C63 AMG, Audi S4, or Porsche Cayman S?" are great too...especially when they follow up with "I just got out of school and am wanting a fun "first" car." Then they go on to complain about each. My first car out of school was a $1,500 Nissan 280zx (with more rust than paint) not an exotic sports car..be fortunate you can even consider something in that pricer range "out of school." And then you have those that lambast the hell out of others because someone chose an automatic transmission over a manual...who cares. We don't all live next to a race track or place where traffic is sparse. Be happy that you are in a position to be able to buy this car in the first place and stop complaining about stupid things because the Internet has made it convenient and anonymous. Overall, I think these forums are becoming more about bragging and shooting cowardly opinions at people vs. a good source of helpful information. |

Here's one possible option.
I had a '02 330Ci that I had for about 1 year and got rear ended while I was stopped, waiting to get off the freeway. Both front and rear was badly damaged (bent frame) but my insurance (21st century ) wouldn't total it because the damage wasn't 80% the value of the car. I was pissed....I didn't want the car back because the extensive damage. Let alone the diminished value....that's a whole different story. Also, the time paying for a rental car. But what I did was that I found a body shop that repaired Ferrari's, Porsche's and BMW's, etc. and asked the owner if any of his guys wanted to buy my wrecked car. I found a guy who bought it and got a check from 21st century for the repair work. Then I went and bought a new car. You lose some money here....but not too much. Because of my extensive damage I would never be able to get a decent trade-in because they can't sell it as a CPO. So your other option is get it repaired and keep the car for a long time to take off the sting of the diminished value hit. |
