***burger Motorsports ****
Please be aware .. even if Burger Motorsports ships you in incomplete item ..or if the item causes damage to your vehicle (in 5 minutes).. .. and have bought multiple items from them in the past ... THEY ARE COMPLETELY UNWILLING TO WORK WITH YOU ...
They are NOT the only gig in town .. Everyone seems to think they are the best .. They are the best at one thing .. losing a new customer that, through the next two years ... would have spent thousands with them ... This is over an intake, correctly installed .. all that jazz .. it blew out my turbo sensor .. 4 MILES of driving ... All this over a single part .. that, what their cost is MAYBE $75 ... Great Business ... Buy Elsewhere ... On a side note .. if you feel differently ... please see my ad for the BRAND NEW BMS Intake ... I'll take best offer .. just so I don't have to look at it on my kitchen table ... |

On a side note, Amazon sells the aFe intake with Prime shipping. It is quite a bit more expensive ($322 for the Magnum FORCE and $419 for the Momentum CAI) but at least returns would be hassle free, thinking about going that route.

I have the aFe Momentum Pro 5R install since 570 miles on the odometer. Never a problem or CEL issue since. Now at 3000 miles. Fits tight and great intake sound.

Good to hear Delnari (I just made a thread asking about that exact intake). So you just had the intake and nothing else (no JB4)? For how long did you have just the intake before you installed JB4?

JB4... About 8 weeks I suppose.
... 3,500 miles or more. 3 good road trips in there. All they had to do.. Was meet me in the middle... Say it's unusual for them to return it.. Say they wanted to work with customers... Come to an agreement... Somewhere in the middle... But... Not a damn thing... Basically... "Too bad, take care, thanks for your money" |

If I were BMS, I would absolutely not want to take blame without CONCLUSIVELY knowing that my product is what caused the failure. Imagine if your 'turbo sensor' going bad had caused your engine to self implode, by taking blame for the sensor failure they are essentially making themselves liable for the engine failure...
As was so eloquently put in the other thread... an intake is just an intake and filter, there is not much complexity there to give such a failure. The airflow sensor is VERY sensitive and if it was damaged it could be triggering other errors downstream.. which could manifest into the problems you have now. Also, you are running other modifications, so there are other places that may not get along well with the intake.. who knows. Point is, I *highly* doubt whatever your real issue is, it can be traced back to the physical air intake itself. I don't doubt that your issue started AFTER you installed the intake but to blame it on the intake right off the bat, especially given how simple the product is, is a little premature. LASTLY, they (and many other companies) have a disclaimer. You install it yourself.. you take responsibility for it.

Whoa there big fella..don't get you panties in a bunch... Seriously, as you put it.
The other thread... Directly related to this. So, you know, there's that. Isn't that the point of a forum? Oh, I didn't eliminate it... Crystal clear, it was their product. Yes ALL safeguards were followed. If you can praise them from up on high.. Other are allowed their point of view.. And experiences. The customer service is the main issue. |

I was definitely not trying to place the blame on him but rather look at it more subjectively as there are many people that are running this intake and have not had this type of result (m235i)..

I agree and there are a lot of users who have this intake on the M235i with no issues and I knew a few personally.
Before going and ranting to the world through the forum, you should try to work it out with BMS first. You might have just spoken to the wrong person about this since they've generally been very customer oriented with their products. |

I think the OP has a point. One of the purposes of this forum is to talk about problems.
Don't flame him. |

I replied to your other thread with directions for how to resolve your issue. I think you fried your TMAP ground by letting the BMS USB cable or box brush against the battery rail. You probably also damaged the JB4 box. You'll know if you open the JB4 box and the ground trace on the bottom of the board is burnt to a crisp. BMS will warranty the JB4 for you just send it in to them for repair. The JB4 includes a ground bypass so with the repaired JB4 installed you'll be good to go. Now if you want to fix the issue without the JB4 installed just follow this simple DIY. Note that BMW will not know how to fix this and instead just replace your ECU which is a complete waste and not necessary. To avoid this problem BMS suggests covering the battery rail area with a piece of tape to avoid accidental contact when you're working in there. Mike |

OK ... SO ...
My issue with BMS was the way things were handled via the emails back and forth. I was clear, it was the customer service I had a problem with. Everyone has good and bad experiences with different companies, and it's their right to discuss them on sites like these. I have never had any dealing with Mike from there, till just now reading his post. Doing, what I do for a living, I can assure you it was hooked up correctly. THAT being said .. what Mike just posted, made me look deeper. I have no problem saying this is what happened. The ground is fried. I wish I would have the opportunity to speak with him first. ... would have saved all the bs .. The timing was insanely crazy .. as we all know, the intake is generally not anywhere near where one would hide the JB4, so that certainly was not the issue (hitting it, or otherwise) Having it for months, running perfectly, then one change .. bingo bango ... all hell breaks loose. It's uncanny ... So, my sincere apologies to BMS, had I been given this idea first .. no one would have heard of anything .. To all the folks who slam people for going against the popular voice, bite me. Right or wrong, everyone has a right to their opinion. |
