How much did you get your:

I would probably do the opposite. I have not purchased either one yet. But extended maintanence seems lame to me. I have owned the car for 19 months...based on service intervals...have only had 1 scheduled appointment. Getting the extended program would give me....what 2 or maybe 3 free visits based on the scheduled plan. I think I can just pay for things as the come up with regards to maintanence service.

My insurance company. Geico sells MBI (Mechanical Breakdown Insurance) good for 7years/100,000 miles, and transferrable if you sell the car to another Geico customer. Deductable is $250/repair and the coverage is pretty inexpensive compared to some of the other plans out there. My friend took out an extended warranty on his Maxima from Nissan, paid almost $700 and they charge him $50/part. He had suspension problems and it cost him over $150 in deductables before they fixed it.

I have no idea how much extended maintainence costs...BMW will extend your 4 years/50,000 free scheduled maintainence for another 2 years/50,000 miles.

I am debating purchasing an extended warranty for my car. I already have the extended maintenance coverage.

This is a sample contract through Mercury Select Managment.

https://www.penfed.org/productsandra...latinum.nw.pdf

Any one have any previous experience or thoughts on extended coverage?

the offer is good for 10 days and cost for my car is 2300 bucks.

thanks!

There is plenty that's not covered in that agreement. For $2300, what is the term of the coverage and what's the deductable?

There is no deductible for this quote
All failures are covered except the following
8 years/100,000 miles

Excluded from coverage are your normal maintenance and service items like alignments, adjustments, fuses, lights/bulbs/lenses, fan belts, brake pads and shoes, shock absorbers and any components not supplied as original equipment by the vehicle manufacturer.

Audio speakers, Batteries, Body panels, Body seals, Bumpers, Cables, Carpeting, Chassis, Glass, Insulation, Hoses, Lines and fittings (except brake lines and fittings), Paint, Soft trim/ moldings or appearance items, Upholstery, Weather stripping, Wheel lug nuts/studs, Wheels, Wheel covers.

GPS/Navigation system, Video components, Heads-up display and Night vision systems are not covered unless the optional “$250.00 surcharge for Special Electronics Package is purchased.

I did not know BMW offered an extended warranty? I know of the extended maintenance plan, I bought it.

Be careful about third party providers. I bought one from a company called "1 Source" and they went out of business just about at the end of the 5 year contract. I had a $1200 repair that didn't get covered. I would only go with a factory based product.

Seems like a lot of "conditionals" that could limit coverage.

IMO, extended warranties are rarely, if ever, worth it. Save your $2300 and use it for the unlikely event that you will have a warranty claim.

During my limited history of owning BMW's (see sig), all of my cars have been very reliable. Other than in warranty issues, Inspection II, tires and brakes, I've never had an issue that has resulted in out-of-pocket expense. Keep in mind though that most of my cars were sold by 75k miles.
