maintenance - what should be covered
I have a 2014 235, and this is my 3rd new BMW. I'm not use to paying for anything for the first 4 years/50000. I generally just take it in when the service indicator says it is due without issue. However, I just took it in for the 30K maintenance and the SA was trying to get me to pay for a trans, coolant and differential flush. He mentioned it wasn't covered on the 235M, but was on the M4. I assume they are just trying to milk me for unnecessary service, but figured I'd ask to see if anybody knew what is up, or if it's some new policy.
I ended up declining everything, but now they have been calling me and sent me a letter saying we recommended the following. Thanks! |

Depends on the miles. Tranny and diff at 30k maybe, coolant is usually good for a long time. I actually wanted to pay the dealer to do tranny and diff for me, they basically refused and said its not needed. I would do it if I were you. How much they want per each service ?

Routine Fluid changes is the cheapest insurance possible for a car you plan on keeping.
Can't speak for the auto, but fluid change for the manual and diff took less than an hour for my first time doing it. I paid The dealership for the coolant flush because apparently now it takes the service computer to run the coolant pump, etc. |

Coolant flush should be included with Maintenance; trans and diff drain/fill is on your dime due to BMW's "lifetime fill" policy. I use a reputable independent shop to do trans and diff drain/fill. 35K miles is a good time to get that done.

Thanks for everyone's input on this. I guess I was confused as these services were never brought up on prior cars. I'll probably find an independent shop to do the diff and tranny flush. Dealer probably wants too much to do them.

I have a local guy who services my 2012 X3 at a much lower cost than the dealer. That is how they make their money. New 228ix will go there until warranty expires.

If you're leasing, just maintain as BMW provides for free.
If you've bought the car and want to keep it for a while, follow BavAuto's recommendations (I do): http://blog.bavauto.com/9906/bavaria...nce-schedules/ Here's the F22 Maint Schedule: http://www.bavauto.com/Assets/inst_pages/f22mc.pdf |
