When is the right time to tune?

Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum world but I've been digging in here a lot for information and reviews on many topics I won't waste time with . Thanks in advance to this entire community ! ... so to move on why I'm making this thread is for my self and hopefully for others that may follow .
I currently drive a 335i 6mt coupe and I'm curious as to when is the right time to tune. Reason being is because I'm aware that people go FBO but as for me I'm only going with slight bolt on. Thus far I've done upgrades with BOV + charge pipe , RB PCV valve , mishomoto CC and stepped 5inch intercooler. I'm doing high flow mufflers next as I do not want to go catless DP.
Hopefully I've laid out enough for you guys to see my position and where I stand as far as upgrades. So to the point ....
When should I concern myself with true tuning , like actually getting it tuned? Will these upgrades with a tune be a problem to the vehicle without one ?
My car was tuned previously with all stock components, however now that I've done upgrades I've noticed a difference in performance, seems a little held back from what it was .
So .... I'm ready... what a good word or suggestions!

JB4 (piggyback), MHD (flash), or Cobb (more expensive flash). When tuned, if normal maintenance things like plugs, injectors, and coils are not up to par, you may experience some issues. Fuel pump as well, especially if you use an e85 mix. There is no right time. I was tuned the first week I picked up my 335is. You won't be able to go back to stock boost after getting used to 100+ more hp and tq.

Do all of your preventative maintenance first . Make a checklist , check everything off , then tune your car. Better safe then sorry..

Anytime is the right time to tune! Lol

All those items only help our cars, no harm w/o a tune...just a little pointless is all. Like Alex said though, just dont be surprised if misfires happen..just regular maintenance parts will need to be replaced more often than is scheduled for ie. spark plugs, coil packs, oil changes etc when running higher boost. And log your car! Dont just slap a tune on there and forget about it, logging will show you potential problems if your car is not running healthy.

Dont know how many miles you are. Mine has 44K miles

I did full bolt on except down pipe, and I am going to tune it

The things I did before I do it:
Change Spark plugs
Check Coils
Walnut shell blast

And log your car before you tune it, make sure it runs ok.

After tune it, log it too.

Thank you all for the advice. I'm in the position where I don't want to go with catless downpipe because of emissions. I'm aware of the preventive maintenance issues and I'm addressing them one by one. I do have a mental checklist on these parts, plugs, coil packs, etc. I'm really debating between jb4 and flasher MHD. If you guys could really help you decide that'd be great! Im a do it yourself kind of guy so I'd like to be able to learn and do these things myself. As far as logging the car I'll do my best in this learning curve of mine. And in all reality what I'm really looking for out of the car with the mods that I already have in it is to add 100 horsepower or so. I'm not trying to get crazy I just want the extra power there in case I do to use it for my spirited driving days!

JB4 + backend flag should have been your first mod.

Well . Today I helped myself to the MHD flasher tune. After reading many post and doing research on the JB4 vs. Mhd, I decided to do the MHD. Reason being is because it's a set map pretty made for increased performance without having to finicky with much . I must say ....... ready ? ....... Holy $H! $..... it's a completely different machine with the boost roof heightened. Sure I know there will be maintenence to come , but that under the discretion of my foot and pedal ! Lol....
Thank you all for you inputs and feeds on these forums , my love for the community is definitely stronger.

#drive fast take chances ! Lol

Depends on your mileage. My guess is, you have more than 30,000mi. Prepare for spark plugs, coils, intake valve cleaning.

FMIC = Stage 2 Safe
No FMCI = Only Stage 1

Stage 2 is very aggressive , definitely make sure to have the Front Mount Cooler ! I've been running the stage 1 for a while now and it's very reliable , 93 octane and FMIC. I ran stage 2 for a test and the new v6 maps from wedge performance , they are sick especially the v6 map. The v6 map is a huge feel in difference in gears 1, 2 and 3. The boost and throttle response is very strong and accurate for launch and take off. It was a night and day thing for me . Wedge Performance is soon to release v6.1 any moment .
I did however have to back off the v6 map due to flywheel issues . I have a 6mt and the flywheel has paid the price , likely due to age . Also the the release bearing . I had a moment after testing the 6 where I couldn't disengage clutch easily and had to force the clutch out of its gear ! I was still able to shift afterwards but did wearily because of what I may have done .
Long story short , prep the car for what your going to hit it with .

My next stop is a new dual mass flywheel and a 335is clutch ECS Tuning!

Another strong vote for doing the maintenance items. Shortly after going to an e85 mix I went from a six cylinder to a four banger, Spark plugs and an injector. Did all the coils for good measure.

Yea definitely smart to be proactive and take care of the maintenance items prior to a tune. Any tune will basically bring out any weak points there are (old plugs or coils, stock charge pipe that is weak and prone to breaking, connections that may not be tight enough and turn into potential boost leaks)

I saw above you went with the MHD Tune. I got a JB4 a little over a year ago and thought about maybe going with an MHD or possibly a Back end Flash to go with the JB4. I still don't know as much about the MHD and still have a lot of research to do on the MHD.

Just installed a JB4 myself the other day.
Been really excited to try it out but I am still working on completing all the preventive maintenance first as the previous owner was a bit lazy.

My question is which map should I be starting with?
I have heard a couple different suggestions between Map1 and Map5.
I don't have much done to the car other than a cat-back exhaust, Intake and the JB4 itself and now I am just shopping around for a charge-pipe + BOV.

From what I have researched map1 seems to be ideal but any other input would be greatly appreciated.

Also please forgive the newbie here but the person I had purchased the jb4 from mentioned he had enabled the fix for the wastegate rattle.
Before purchasing the jb4, I had previously adjusted the actuator rod and put washers on the arm to eliminate the rattle which had worked.
Will this potentially cause me any issues now?

Sorry guys didn't mean to hijack this thread!

Why not go Catless, especially since there is a DP Fix for this???

Map 1 or Map5 both will work on your car
Try each map for a week and then decide which you like best

Yes, that is exactly what the DP fix does.

I thought usually when you tune a car there is a downpipe fix for this issue? So why would I want to buy this simulator? Have you personally used this simulator on a tune car with catless downpipes? I've been dying for somebody to fill me in on how this really does work.
