After driving my 240i for months, I've noticed a weird "quirk" about the gas pedal. I don't know, it might be a normal thing but its quite strange to me. When in comfort mode, the gas pedal has soft, normal feel when pushed just like any other car. However in Sports mode it feels a lot stiffer and takes more effort to physically push the pedal down.
I'm not talking about throttle response or mapping, just the gas pedal itself when pushed. What I've done to temporarily to fix the "stiff" pedal feel while still wanting to be in Sport mode is configure it to Drivetrain only and just deal with the comfort steering. Is the hard gas pedal feel something that is programmed with the sportier driving modes or am I imagining things? Any insight is appreciated!

I do not believe the feel changes. The sensitivity definitely does. I think that's what makes it feel different. I could be wrong.

You are correct. Just the sensitivity changes. It gets more sensitive with the more Sport you select.

There's a simple spring in the pedal assembly. There is no adjustment being made to the spring firmness/rate. The only change is in the way the throttle sensitivity is mapped by the DME.

It's the point of comfort mode. It's supposed to be the most efficient as possible so the response in the throttle is dulled and non reactive so that you get the best mpg's. That's why I only use it when I'm cruising on the highway in case I have to make some sort of quick move.

Economy mode on the other hand will shift to neutral and coast (a mode which drives me nuts as it eliminates engine braking when lifting off the throttle and also takes forever to re-engage when you get back on the throttle. Economy mode feels like it neutered the car.

I noticed a good change in comfort mode response when I had the DINAN V1 Stage 1 installed. Removed most of the comfort mode lag and made off the line starts in comfort less strange, but not snappy like sport or sport+. Haven't heard from other folks with different tunes, but they may have similar results.
