2018 M240i ActiveLED Headlight Burn marks
I have a 2018 M240i convertible, manual. It replaced a 2015 M235i convertible, manual, so I have a long history with this particular model. The headlights on the 2018 are Active LED. There are burn marks where the bulbs are overheating the clear plastic bulb housing- see picture. It's overheating the paint at the leading edge of the hood. It's occurring on both sides, not just one. Anyone else experiencing this? I did search and can't find anyone else with this issue.

I can't quite tell from the first photo, but the second photo of the underside of the hood looks like the anti-corrosion spray that BMW sprays on all their cars. Some are applied more liberally than others it seems. I have a 2017, but this seems to pop up in random places (sometimes like wtf did that come from?) especially when the temps rise. Are you able to wipe it off of both areas or is it hardened?

I have had that stuff at the top of my headlights for years. Impossible to get off, but not visible with the hood shut, unless you look really hard.

I've had no problem in removing Cosmoline with mineral spirits in the past, assuming the formula hasn't changed (which wouldn't be surprising, as mineral spirits normally dissolves petroleum based products, which may not be environmentally friendly enough now).

Thanks all
Yeah, when I scraped, it's definitely not a burn but rather a sprayed black substance. I'll try to get it off with mineral spirits next wash. Thanks!

It is actually a fairly clear honey colour to begin with, but as it becomes more liquid and runs out of the panel drip holes in hot weather it attracts dust and dirt and turns a dark brown.
