Waiting for a production number...STILL! Advice?
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I put my deposit down in the dealer nearly a month ago for my m235i, the dealer has been on radio silence and just says they are waiting for a production number. When the production number arrives, it's still another 6-8 weeks. Am I missing something or is this normal? He has one in stock but it's nearly the direct opposite of my specification. |

Not normal....they probably don't have an available allocation for the car. They are waiting/hoping to get another allocation from BMW. Those come out at the beginning of the month, so if they don't have one now it might be early June before you have another chance.
Call them as ask them specifically if they have an allocation right now. Quote:

They assure me that they do...
I've started asking a few other dealers in surrounding states if they have any stock / allocations available. I know I'll have to be a bit patient but they wouldn't give or help out with a loaner in the mean time so i'm having to rent a car which is $$$$!! |

I went throught the same thing we my dealer. I signed a purchase order when they assured me they had a car "available", but weeks and weeks went by with no production number. They just kept telling me: "we are still waiting on BMW to assign a number".
When my patience ran out and I really pushed them they admitted they didn't have an allocation, but were hoping to get one. I was pissed, and let the general manager (a friend of ours), sales manager and CA know how unhappy I was that they misled me. A week later they got a car allocated and all is now good.

Dealers either have an open allocation or they don't. They know the build week of their allocations. It sounds like they didn't have allocation last month. They should know by now if they have allocations this month, so if they still have not told you anything, they may have over allocated and you may be waiting another month if they decide not to give you whatever allocations they may have gotten (maybe someone else agreed to MSRP for their car and you wanted $2k off). |

I did really hammer them on the deal.
However, they had an allocation and I saw it in their system, they then changed that order with my spec. So i was lead to believe I was in the system. It sounds like they've screwed me, I made it clear that I'd be renting in the short term so delivery was key - if this has been overlooked then i'll be sure to place the order elsewhere. Time to pick up the phone... |

So, I spoke with the sales guy earlier and he didn't have it. Just called back and went to the dealer principal explaining my (our) theory that the number had been passed on. He was very sorry and felt that may have been the case, the Sales Manager then called back seconds later with a production number.
It sounds like they were trying their luck. Also worth noting is that I chased them on the $1k options rebate for this month, they were looking into extending this to the order. I made reference to this site and the people that have received the rebate making it entirely possible. This site is a fantastic resource. Thank you. Summary: Keep on top of the order, don't trust the salesman. |

well the $1k option allowance is on good through June 2nd so you need to take delivery by then to get it I think
So did you ask what month is the allocation you have?.... could be August for what it is worth... |

interesting... good to know
So basically, lets say you will buy a car next year.... you can put an order 1 year in advance and get the best offer available through the whole year? |

If a rate or incentive/credit/what-have-you is "lockable" then it is good for 60 days east coast, 90 days west coast. Some incentives do explicitly state you "must take delivery by x/x/xx" which speaks for itself.

I've seen this "good for 60 days east coast, 90 days west coast." quoted before.. but where are people getting that info from?

its very simple....if dealer have allocation/a spot for you then that allocation will produce a production number or at least tell you that this month's allocation for the M235i is already full/taken. Then they will tell you if an allocation is available next month..so on.
if they can't tell you when you'll get an allocation then stay away from the dealer and find yourself a new dealer/CA many dealers might not have an allocation open but at least find one that will tell you when |
