How light is your car?
Anyone building a lightweight car? At roughly 3400 pounds, there is some weight to loose.
A 911 is lite to begin with. Here is 438 pounds of additional weight loss. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...d-story-3.html |

It depends on what you are trying to achieve with weight loss, but if it is for hard track use, it is better starting with a light car to begin with and add power, as opposed to starting with a powerful car and trying to lose weight. I would class a light car as being something below 1000kg / 2200 lbs, not many cars that are currently produced can meet that criteria.
If it is just for a lighter car for road use, I'm not sure if it is worth lightening a car for the marginal benefits vs the major downsides in terms of cost, noise, reliability, resale value and loss of integrated systems due to the best weight saving coming from stripping everything from the interior other than the drivers seat and controls. |

3570 full tank and 150-lb driver. This would be ~3300 empty.
I've done some of the basic weight reduction things, but there's an easy, say, 150 more in battery, ac, doorcards. |

3,603# with 170# driver and 1/2 tank of fuel.
I don't think these cars will ever be lightweight, nor will they ever be middleweight. They're on the low end of light-heavyweight.

Hope to weigh mine. Track edition. Should be lighter than most.
Weigh is definitely removable. It can get expensive to do. Lightweight batteries etc. Track cars would be lighter. Usually done with ac, seats, and other big heavy not necessary parts. Curious to see if anyone has stripped theirs out and how much weight was lost? |

Rear seat delete is supposedly good for nearly 50#, and there are lithium batteries that are under 10kg (think that is probably saving another 20# or more). Track buckets will also save some, but you put it back with the cage.

Old 911’s are light to begin with. Not a stiff chassis by today’s standards.
This is an example of the effort involved in getting a race car very light. It is expensive to do. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...1971-911s.html There is always weight to lose somewhere. |

That car may have been an extreme case, though.

Y'all are a bad influence It's 3530 now, finally got rid of the massive OEM battery.
The replacement (40Ah AG) battery is actually not that light at 14 lbs, but with how often these cars disconnect the alternator, I didn't wanna push it too far. |

At a certain point the 911 guy said it cost about $100 per pound.
The battery is a great example. The OEM is super heavy. Hope to weigh it nest week. It is the "M performance" track edition from 2015. Parts bin special really. I really like it. OEM engine oiling - I hope to address w/M2 bits. I had to look up the VR 70; station wagon! love it! |

Me, too! I took it to Lime Rock Park, New Hampshire Motor Speedway, and Monticello Motor Club. It was an understeering AWD car, but if you worked within its limitations it got around MMC and LRP pretty well. NHMS, not so much - that's a pure handling track. The only mods were a mild tune from IPD and Castrol SRF brake fluid. The buyer got a very good deal when I sold it for $24K with 24K miles on it.

My car is 88 pounds less than standard M235.
If I pass a GT3 they are not driving their car fast. I'm not Fangio, I'm having fun I have been fiddling with P cars since 2002. I had an air cooled Carrera, 944 and a project race car - 1977 911 S that I never finished. That project and the others were sold to pay for bills and kids sports. M235 is a bargain. That said I do want a Cayman. They are too expensive, but their depreciation is less. The Caymans have similar issues to the M235I. Oil starvation, difficulty in finding one with an LSD. Not to mention bore scoring. The 2.7 L does not suffer from for scoring. Neither do the 2009+ years. At a certain point, you're not gonna be any happier. There's always going to be a better or faster car. Today I am chewing over purchasing a set of PSS10 Bilstein coil overs. What I will have done to my car, I would have wanted done to a Cayman (assuming it is a 2.7). That is; a baffle, camber plates, wheels, tires and Bilstein. |
