Both of our BMWs go in for service today...

Lets start with the e90...

e90:
-Developed a loud click when turning the steering wheel just a few degrees left or right.
-Developed an audible metalic click when cold starting the car.
-A small bubble in the front drivers side tire...
-Car is still tracking to the left while driving. (my feeling its the RFTs)

M6:
-Comfort Access not working.
-Passenger side door doesnt sit flush when shut. (This is the dealers fault and wil be adjusted)

Im kind of annoyed by the issues in the e90, im sure they will be sorted. Has anyone else had any of the listed issues? or are these new?

JG

I think I have a clicking in my 335 motor, but probably normal.

I'd be concerned with the M6 door, why would any adjustment be necessary? There should be an exacting tolerance from the factory. I'm assuming the car was never in an accident, right?

Nope, never in an accident...

Greeney - have you seen the thread I've been posting on about the above issue?

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4548

Now, on my car, the "click" is not audible. I'd call it a "bump" or "thump" in the steering, as if it is catching on something or if the power steering thumps for a second or something.

In other words, I feel it in the wheel but can't hear it. If a feeling could be "loud" or "soft," mine would be soft -- it's noticeable if you're looking for it, so I notice it every time. But I am concerned that if I go to my dealer, the SA would say, "What are you talking about?" It's there, but it's pretty slight. Mostly, it's just an annoyance since I started noticing it. I'm debating taking it in.

FWIW, as you can see in the thread, this seems to be a relatively common problem on the E90. Of course, things are blown out of proportion on the Internet because you hear the bad more than the good, but this seems to be one of the more common E90 issues reported here. It's common enough that several people here have had their entire steering columns replaced. Hopefully that will fix it, and hopefully the SA will be willing to change out the steering column for this problem. To me, that seems like major surgery for a minor annoyance, at least on my car. But your car sounds like it's worse than mine.

Best of luck and please keep me posted what they do about the click in the steering. I'll need all the info I can when I finally approach my dealer about it.

e90:

-Developed an audible metalic click when cold starting the car.
=This is completely normal...My current and my previous (e46) bmw both had the clicks..They're the most audible at warm start-ups and i believe its when the lifters are opening.

-A small bubble in the front drivers side tire...
=I personally had 3 of these...I really hope they can replace it for you and for your benefit look for a non-rft brand tire for your next set. The sidewalls of these bridgestones are pathetic. As of right now, my baby is sititng on ps2's with over 25k on the thread.

-Car is still tracking to the left while driving. (my feeling its the RFTs)
=It can be either the thread of the rfts, over inflation of tires, or both. Also, i get this a lot with new tires. Its almost as if the cars driving itself.

a burrito, I don't know why you always say this. The E46 had a completely different engine from the E90, and it makes you sound like you don't know what you are talking about when you try to make this comparison. Soft ticking might be normal but loud ticking is not.

I, and a lot of other people have been having issues with the engines clicking, and BMW has been replacing parts on our engines (lifters and camshafts) because of it. Hence, the clicking noise may most definitely NOT be normal.

This issue is a sticky in the DIY section. I suggest reading it over. There is audio file on page 3 of the thread so people can hear which noise we're referring to in the thread. The thread also has pictures of affected parts. Here's the link:

BTW... I would have suspected the car was accidented if I hadn't had the car since new... it just seems like it doesn't hold in as tight as it should so it kind of bounces back out from the insulation in the door frame.

Ok, the M6 is back and good as new... The 3 on the other hand, they "didnt have time to look at" ... Right.

From what I've heard, bubbles on a tire which are visible are usually caused by bumping into something v. a defect. Bubbles from a defect aren't usually discernible.

Just got the call,

-The metallic sound doesnt exist...
-Front left tire needs to be replaced, not in stock $430, fuck that...
-Front 2 rims are bent... no idea how but according them they are...
-They took it out for a "test drive" or beat the hell out of my car thing...

So I got nothing fixed... awesome.

Prop on buying a M6 and 330 on the same day, your sales representative must have shit himself!

But it sounds like you need to go to a different dealer, get a second opinion on the wheels, and just get your cars serviced there from now on.

Front rims bent .. bubbled sidewall... steering probs.. anyone else besides you drive that car? How's the alignment? The symptoms are consistent with having whacked something/pothole/curb enough to put it out pretty good..
