rear diffuser replacements?
So I was in an unfamiliar residential location backing out of a driveway in the dark and CRUNCH, bashed the plastic gray rear valence piece on my alpine white M235i. Rather than replace the stock (and boring) unit I figure I'll use something aftermarket.
I'm fairly conservative when it comes to appearance mods, so I'm looking for something that at least looks functional but not like it just rolled off the racetrack. Any suggestions? |

Can the m performance diffuser be wrapped in a faux carbon fiber look ?
Is the shape too complex for a wrap? How durable and long lasting are wraps? Or is there a painting technique that gives the look of carbon fiber? |

I have read they are pretty durable. You could try getting them hydrodipped. Look it up, it's in a way similar to paint but also similar to a wrap. Take this all with a grain of salt as it's all based off of what I have read online and I have no personal experience. |

Was about $210 and looks awesome (hopefully... but it's not shipped yet... (chinesse new year)). Edit: I won't have that weird looking metal grill in the little "breathing" parts |

I think that stock diffuser is 8,8/10 in fitment and this one could be somewhere around 7,5/10 I'd say. Please note that I was installing diffuser in the night and haven't put screws into also - diffuser was in a black matte basic paint (I'm getting it painted it in mineral white on the sides and gloss black center). Diffuser is now shipped to my mate who's running paint shop. Check some pictures. Actually a friend of mine ordered a carbon fiber one. He is in this topic too - "Tamim3". I think he hasn't received yet. I have gone with plastic because I will be putting ///M carbon fiber exhaust tips on and that would be too much carbon for me . My car is 3 months old so the paint is "brand new". It should be problem for them to match the paint. But yeah, MW are pain in the ass. Father had it on Z4 and after 1,5 he wasn't able to get perfectly matched rear spoiler. |

Thank you for that valuable tip. I know what you mean about then carbon fiber tips on carbon fiber. I think I might go for the BMS black chrome tips. I wonder if the Carbon Fiber finish needs paint prep also?
I'm looking forward to any info you might have on installation, I've read that some 3m double sided tape is necessary. I want to drill as few holes as possible. |

Regarding painting Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) parts, I found this article which makes the job seem so complicated. It seems that painting carbon fiber resin finishes is not really much easier. I hope your paint job goes well.
