Intentional damage to my 228i?
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I'm thinking it was the contracted maintenance workers next door upgrading/preparing the office for the next tenants The damaged area had white paint transfer on it that I removed. Perhaps it was one of the tools they were using. I even parked next to the curb where no one else was parked... Do you guys think its possible to use PDR + have a good detailer fix it and do their magic? Any recommendations around Woodland Hills / Los Angeles area? I was thinking about using dr colorchip or langka (I think). I'm torn between getting it fixed or just leaving it. It's a 36 month lease, but I have the lease protection so I'm covered. I just can't stand looking at it and the fact that the car is only 2 months old. |

Try getting one of those pop a dent kits from Autozone. If the dent is big enough it may just pop right out. I have used those successfully before.

Can't cost that much to get it fix. I'd pay for it myself and keep the claim off my insurance record.
If you do claim it, you should be able to use your uninsured motorist coverage as it technically is a hit and run. Your deductible may be smaller and it wouldn't count as an accident against your rates. |

Under $150 for PDR at the dealer... probably cheaper to have a mobile guy come and do it (they use the same guys, just markup the price). If the paint transfer is on your car, then your paint should be relatively fine. You already rubbed it off. The dent is accessible by removing the underbody wheel well lining. They will work it out like new.
Yelp some PDR specialists. |

That's a door ding, a deep one that transferred paint but just a door ding. No malice involved, only disregard and disrespect for other people's property.

It's not a comprehensive claim it's an uninsured motorist claim will not raise your rates that's what you do with your insurance company. It's a separate deductible then your normal policy somewhere around $250 is the average.
(Had insurance license for 15 years) Get it fixed, painted and forget about it. |

With paint transferred from the other car, I doubt it. He said it buffed out. Plus he already paid for SafeLease. That's what SafeLease is for. Since the car is brand new though, I would iron out the dent, but no more than that. Getting the panel repainted is silly.

Sorry, I guess those pics were after the buffing. So there is damage to the paint, but the PDR guys can usually make it look like new with rubbing compounds. Seriously... it's a car. Fix the dent, rub out the paint imperfection and get on with life. Why pay for SafeLease only to spend more money on fixing every ding back to perfection?

I think in terms of paint repair they use a type of air-brush technique: and it's difficult in that it takes experienced pros.
They can work small areas with excellent blending. The pros are great at mixing the paint and wet-sanding then micro-polish. But I'm not certain so do your research |

I suppose I can understand both sides.
However... If you have the money for this, or any new car, you usually have the money to keep it up, or at least should. Also, if you could live with a blemish like that, for that long. Go all in. I'd just stop washing it and waxing it. |

Love hearing all these insurance experts weighing in...it's not uninsured motorist it's a COLLISION claim. You are looking at $300-$400 at a shop and it's best to just pay out of pocket and have it professionally fixed. You won't be able to fix this yourself. End of story, eat it or go crazy staring at it.
Insurance won't even be involved....it's likely going to cost less than your collision deductible. Sorry bro! Last edited by SteveAustin; 09-09-2014 at 07:08 PM.. |

My experience is that ANY claim counts against you one way or another.
Personally I'd just leave it, damage like this happens. The first one is the hardest...

You guys are completely wrong, sorry to break the news to you.
Things vary from state to state, and you have to currently carry UM protection. I've carried my insurance license for FIFTEEN YEARS... I practice in 9 STATES... It IS an uninsured motorist claim... Your deductible can vary, however typical deductible for such an event is $250... BY LAW, you ARE NOT AT FAULT, therefore CANNOT raise your rates. Thank you, and have a good day sirs. Hopefully the OP will follow up, and if he meets the criteria and follows through you all would have just received a free insurance lesson, and he gets his car back to perfect, or as close as possible. Look at your policies, call your insurance companies. This is a VERY common mistake people make and the insurance companies love it. If you have a couple bucks in your pocket it's usually pointless to drive in any vehicle that's damaged by a hit and run. I feel you folks are thinking it was damaged by a hammer, baseball bat, work boot... That would be a comprehensive claim... Completely different. Take care. |
