Is Fairfax media anti-motorsport?
I am not a huge fan of the 'V8 Super'-taxis.
But Bathurst is a special track (now infamous around the world with international teams and drivers competing in the February 12 hour) and there are some exceptional drivers competing. This weekend attracts 250,000 spectators. And the extent of the SMHs coverage is one article buried in the middle of the sports section...?? Wt..... ?? |

Of course they're anti motorsport. They're anti anything that puffs out a little smoke. They're anti capitalism and anti freedoms, both of which are exemplified very well in motorsports.
I acknowledge the risk of this becoming a political post. |

It is interesting. Arguably the biggest sporting event in the country (what other event has 200,000 spectators - that was for for the final day, not across all 4 days). Hours of free to air coverage.

Declining V8 ownership generally, declining V8 Supercars relevance ...... except for bogans, Commodore and Falcon diehards, older Holden and Ford V8 fans. Should count ourselves fortunate that Ch7 is still broadcasting live the Supercars weekends. Lets hope it doesn't end with the cessation of Holden and Ford V8 production in Oz

I heard yesterday that the diehards bury beer on the mountain at the event prior to the '1,000' to get around the '1 slab per punter' alcohol restrictions they enforce now.
The winning broadcast for me is the 12 hour in Feb with the GT cars and true supercars. |

Doubt it's the biggest sporting event on at the moment that's the Rugby world cup, my sister's partner is playing in it so I hear all about it.
Think demographic wise are the core buyers of Fairfax paper's V8 fans? Look at the advertising on during the day ect. it's probably not hence why fill the paper with it? My company has worked with Fairfax devisions in the past they test everything and know what buyers want. This is for digital business though. Offline is in a steep decline. |

Highest spectator attendance in Oz for rugby was the Bledisloe at Syd Olympic Park prior to the 2000 Olympics with 110,000 spectators (myself included, epic game...) |
