Today, with the same suspension and settings, I run 255/35-18 front and rear on the street during the summer. The tires are Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.

These are the alignment and wheel specs before I added a BMW M Performance Brake Kit to the car:

the safest 18" rim square fitment with no spacers would be 225/40-18. Apex appears to have a direct fit 245/40-17 square fitment with an ET40 offset. Brake clearances will be tight but it should clear as long as you don't have the m performance brakes retrofitted. The standard gray calipers and the blue calipers will clear. For those going this route, I'd recommend knocking off the vibration dampers from the ends of your brake pads just to increase the gap between the pads and the barrel of the wheel. Some brake pads may come without these vibration dampers, so in that case you don't have to do anything. I haven't noticed any adverse effects from running with or without the dampers.

Also note that different tires of the same nominal specification (e.g., 255-35/18) can have section and tread widths different enough to possibly make fitment difficult. --------------------------------------------- If you haven't a fair amount of personal experience with fitting maximum-width tires on a car that you're going to take to the track, I'd suggest finding a qualified shop or person to assist you. I've always used top shops in the regions I've lived in, and, not being mechanically inclined, I've saved I don't know how much money over the years by following the advice of qualified people with decades of experience. In the case of my M240i, I took it to TC Kline Racing in Hilliard, Ohio. He and his shop have been building aftermarket BMW suspensions for over 30 years. The suspensions are installed on cars they buy and then test at Mid-Ohio, a handling track with a couple of high-speed sections. TC Kline Racing was a one-stop shop for me after I bought my car with the intention of tracking it. Just my 2¢.

Based on what I’ve read on the 2er forum and Apex’s own guide with mods you’d want to do anyway it’s doable on stock suspension with camber plates. I’ll be putting such a setup on my car with stock suspension in a few months. You just need the correct wheel offsets 12mm spacers (up front) and to adjust the camber up slightly in the rear. As long as you turn the camber up enough in the front you should clear the fenders. I’m already running -3 up front and have about half the travel of the Vorschlag camber plates left to use.
Looking forward to putting the TC Klines on the car next year @dradernh has done. My focus for the car is Autocross fun. |

I daily and do spirited mountain driving on 255/35/18's on 18x9et45's with a 12mm front spacer. I also have Vorshlag camber plates and lowering springs. For track and autoX, I'd really recommend going down to a 17" wheel unless you *need* the 18s or 19's to clear a big brake kit. The weight/inertia amd tire cost savings are the real deal.

You’re probably right that the extra 0.5” of rear wheel isn’t realistically worth the $280 per tire set savings (255/40R17 vs 255/35R18) or the $200 saved on the same wheels from Apex in 17x9 et42 vs 18x9 et42 purely for performance. That being said 17s do scratch the factory brake calipers from time to time I’ve found. I guess the spacers still negate any downside in clearance to the shock body

I'm currently on 18x9 et41 wheels, 255/35 Conti ECS02 Tires. -2* with no spacer in the rear, -3* with a 12mm spacer in the front. Stock everything for the suspension.
No rubbing anywhere on the street. Haven't tracked it yet but when I do it'll be closer to -4* front so apples to oranges there, but I've tried to make it rub on the street and can't. Turns bumps parking lots etc. |

How are you getting 3-deg of camber totally stock?
