I think it started way before that. TV, and especially "reality TV," is where stupid became ingrained in people. Viewers expected more and more outlandish and crude behavior as they became inured to the flood of boorish behavior. Suddenly loud and obnoxious was perceived as preferable to thoughtful and considerate.
