Funny note, the guy that installed the pipe on mine (a shop that does state emissions testing) said these cars run so clean that if you sniffed it without any cats/mufflers it would pass.

Depending on the state though, like Illinois, they connect a pipe to the exhaust and run it. Even if it didn't detect anything, the CEL would warrant a failed test and would need to be fixed. |
In PA a SNIFFer is used if there appears to be anything questionable going on, to which he claimed pretty much all new cars could pass without CATS/MUFflers. Mine throws no CELs at all, so all good here
