I don't have a 2 Series and don't have a compass in my mirror either ('12 328i with no Premium Package) but I read from
here that you can turn off the compass - apparently there is a tiny button (think a pinprick sized reset button on a watch) on the bottom of the mirror that you can press to turn on/off for the compass. Not sure if it is still there for newer car models. Maybe that helps?
