I have been running 225/45-17 Blizzaks in a square set up for the last 10 winters. First on my M135i and then on my M235i. I will be running this same combination on my new M240i in the winter ahead. Current wheels for the Blizzaks = Alutec Grip in 17x7.5.
This setup works great on cold wet and icy pavement. Also works well in the snow though we don't get it often in Seattle. If we got more snow, I might consider a 215 width.
Unless one lives in a warm climate, a winter set up is important.
