Update: added about a quart of 50/50 BMW OE Coolant and DI water.
It seems a lot of these engines will have an air pocket that doesn't get filled until after some driving, so an early drop in coolant isn't a big deal. If your car is higher miles, or especially if it keeps losing fluid, then that is a bigger deal and can mean early signs of big$$ problems. I DK about coolant specifics, but this is a good reminder that I should probably pick some up at the dealer before I have to figure it out in the parts store (did this with oil, but not coolant - so far it has been good luck and hasn't been needed).
