The autocrossers I used to know swore by going in the reverse direction - fitting the smaller tire to wider rim so the sidewall was stretched taut. They got the kind of pyro readings they wanted that way, and would talk about it as using the whole tire, rather than (outer) half of a slightly larger one (also saves unsprung weight). This was a few decades back, so tire companies may have found a workaround to this for the autoX-specific tires. If your temp readings aren't nice and even across on those overwide setups, it may be worth your time to trial a comparison of s/t like a 225 or 235 on an 8.5 or 9 inch rim.
