After taking my 2016 228i (33,350 miles) in to have the thermostat replaced on Friday, the shop calls to inform me of two critical items:
- Upper timing chain guide is broken
- Coolant supply connection at turbo is leaking. If line is damaged then replacement will require removing the turbo, which will pile on the the labor costs
I understand I am out of warranty, but the fact that I may have to drop close to $4k into this car at 33,000 miles is just absolutely unacceptable.
The shop recommended I contact the dealer to see if they can cover the timing chain issue due to the low mileage, but I'm not holding my breath because everything I've read BMW only extended the coverage through 2015 model years.
Have any other N20/N26 owners experienced issues like these at this mileage? Is there any chance BMW will cover the timing chain repair?
