from what I understand chromed color (real chrome I don't think is used ) is not very durable. Now brushed metal color or clear coated polished wheels are more the kind of finishes you would modify to.
But unless the wheels are sandblasted clean and baked on enamel the durability will always be suspect.
So swapping - if you swapped to an out of balance used wheel ?
BMW black wheels are really nice...I didn't realize how nice they were until I saw then the the new 8 series.
