nope according to this.
Development of the E36 began in 1981[4] and the exterior design was heavily influenced by aerodynamics, specifically the overall wedge shape, headlight covers and smaller wing mirrors.[5] The lead designers were Pinky Lai[6] and Boyke Boyer.[7][8]

Well as my link states he was involved in the exterior design. He wasn't the lead designer.
