Connected Drive: Yes, it's confusing because the UK iPhone AppStore has at least three overlapping apps related to this. I cover this in another thread:

http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1369062

where i post images of the icons used for each app and what each does. Basically, the latest one is probably all you need. But you will need to be subscribed to BMW Connected Services for the full functionality. If you have this, then you can also download an Intellligent Owner's Guide app which will be tailored to your specific VIN (not completely, but better than the generic paper version) and updated online from time to time.

Driving Modes: You never totally disable some form of traction control, it's just a matter of degree. The various combinations of drive setting are numerous. Probably the best summary is at:

http://www.babybmw.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=71296

Tyre Pressure Sensors: I would have thought that you'd have TPMS, otherwise your system would complain every time you start the car and gets no telemetry from the tyre sensors. In the iDrive there's an option to monitor tyre pressures (I recall you have to be in motion) which should tell you definitively.
Active sound is put through the hi if system.

There is a module in the boot, rear left side behind the trim.

The m235 has it for sure.
