If you need lumbar support, there are many after-market options.
My wife has always had issues with her back requiring some kind of lumbar support for cars seats. We now have the lumbar support feature in the M235xi, but in previous vehicles, she had a mesh support pad (pic below) which really worked as well as the current factory option. There are many similar devices and a lot less expensive than the factory option.
