Here is what has worked for me:
1. First press and hold both the door opener and the button on the mirror. Watch for the flash sequence.
2. Quickly go to the overhead (OH) unit attached to the garage ceiling and press the "learn" button. Make sure the light or other indicator that the OH unit is in "learn" mode is on.
3. Quickly return to the vehicle and press the button on the mirror deliberately (press and hold for a couple of seconds then release) 3 times.
Certain OH units are finicky, especially those with better security.
