You got one of the best-performing intercoolers on the market.
Ignore your mechanic; he seems not to know much about intercoolers.
When judging an intercooler, you judge the design (stepped core vs. single), core density, and fitment.
He never even mentioned how MAD is far superior to stock in all these aspects.
MAD is heavier than stock because it's a bar and plate intercooler like any other aftermarket (except the Wagner Comp). It's also dual-core vs. single-core.
The weight difference is 100% normal.
As for the connections, MAD is one of the best-fitting intercoolers. We never had any fitment issues, and we sure never had one fall off after hitting a bump too hard.
We never had this issue with any intercooler; if your mechanic has these problems, he should double-check his installs.
