hi all, just a quick public service announcement. I received the email from BMW about the end of 3g for its integrated ConnectedDrive / SOS cellular radio.

To set the scene, i have flashed my head unit from iDrive 4 to iDrive 6 to get Apple CarPlay. I also have the BM3 M2 tune on the car.

I went to my dealer to have the newer radio installed. They had to reprogram the head unit after installing the new radio. I flashed BM3 back to stock prior to their attempts. However, the reprogram fried my head unit. Thankfully, the dealership picked up the almost $3,000 tab for a new one and wiring.

Just be careful if you think you're going to do an iDrive retrofit or tuning, take care of this first.
