I've got a 2018 with MPE and had the ECU update in January. I don't believe there to be any noticeable change in the amount or volume of the burbles. It's possible there's slightly less in Comfort mode, but hard to tell.

Have you tried traction mode? That seems to produce the loudest burbles. Leave car in comfort, then press the traction button (should see "Traction" on dash), and then move shifter into M/S mode. My car burbles like crazy when I let off the gas between 2000-4000 RPM.

Also, it is worth reiterating that it's not as loud in the cabin as one would think. With windows closed, it's hard to hear. Windows open, far more noticeable. Have you tried getting someone else to rev the engine while you stand out back to give it a listen?
