You hit the joystick to the left to bring up the little left menu that has options for time shift, then the 2 'heart' icons are for the favorites. Scroll to the second heart and select, it will say something like 'add to favorites' then it will ask if you want to save the artist or the song.
I love this feature and use a lot although my idrive gets a little buggy with it.
