Our local dealership was very active in warning about using certain wash mixes that have silicone (I think it was silicone, or some other additive - I remember that Rain-X was the main brand to avoid). They said it would kill the seals in the pump, and they had already replaced several units (well before the 40k mile point). IIRC, this was under warranty, or sounded like they were footing the bill. I'm guessing that was their motivation to warn us - that from then on they weren't on the hook as we had been warned. Can't hurt for those who don't want to go DIY to try for a covered repair.
