I can't comment on the x-drive compatibility (I would assume not, but I have no real idea), but I confirmed at the time that the M235i and 228i (rwd at least) run the same springs from H&R. It would explain why my drop wasn't as much in front as I expected as well. I've been running them for the past year without issue.

I will say, though, after a year with the springs I'd say they feel like the stock dampers aren't quite adequate. With normal driving, they feel slightly stiffer than stock, but the roads here in NY have some pretty nasty spots. Some of the larger bumps and dips in the road seem a little excessively bouncy or a little too easy to hit the bump stops. This spring I'm going to look into replacing with coilovers so I can have better damping.
