By your math, worst case is the 328 costs you $25k. To that end, the M240 costs $32k in the best case scenario (and more if you have to fix things on that which, at 60k, is a possibility). The M240 will definitely cost more to run in just about every sense beyond the dice roll of stuff breaking. How much are you actually willing to spend?

I was lucky enough to get my 228s timing chain/tensioner/oil pump stuff replaced under warranty. Pretty stout engines otherwise. While it's expensive to do once it's done you don't have to think about it again. I'd recommend doing oil pan/gasket while in there.

That all said, the M240 is a far better car, so if the 4 doors and money don't really matter that much to you, I'd lean that direction anyway.
