On a long and arduous journey from the north-west I got more than 40 mpImpg on the 70 mpg sections before roadworks and s.w.o.t. slowed me down to a crawl.
We also have average speed camera stretches that are monitored by government agents over dozens of miles at a time, and lots of 50 mph sections for no special reason. Getting around the UK on motorways used to be efficient but we have double the numbers of cars on the roads in the last 30 years, and the same miles of highway :/
