Here is an option if you don't mind it on the outside. My amp is a Precision Power i650, and just fits on the left side in front of a fiberglass box I built to hold the sub. This amp is not very high but there was not really any way that was obvious to mount it under the wheel well covers. IIRC there was room just not for the amp I am using. Also there are some adjustment pots on my amp and I wanted to be able to tweak them if needed.

And yes it absolutely is a total PIA to remove all the internal coverings.
