While depreciation is to be expected, even for a classic that eventually begins to rise again, I think the issue for resale is not so much the value as the marketing. Just as with rare coins, stamps, or art, the number of folks who would pay the presumed value are few, but once they can be found, both parties may well appreciate the vehicle and agree to the suggested price for a rare car. This might entail not spending as much time with CarGurus as with the classifieds for the BMW Car Club of America, or on this forum, for example...and patience.
