Yes I'm aware the car has no warranty, but it needs to start in 100 percent working order at time of purchase. It appears to my analytical mind here the car started faulty.

Unfortunately the onus is on the buyer to ensure that the car is in acceptable condition. That is why PPIs exist.
I recommend just picking up a used taillight off ebay and seeing if a swap is all you need. There's a tutorial on how to swap taillights on the forum.
