I think the answer's no but maybe someone has a bright idea.

Have an old iPhone 5s kicking around. My phone's a S8+. I was wondering if I could use my S8+ WiFi hotspot and CarPlay and keep the telephone functions from iDrive to my Android.

I can tether it and CarPlay works fine, but I lose any telephone functions. Any thoughts?

The irritant driving me to this is that there are no BMW compatible podcast apps that have 30 second skip (I know I can use any app through BT but I wanted the browse/search functionality without touching my phone ... fines around here for touching your phone are crazy). Is there an app I'm missing in my search if the above idea can't work?
