Friend had a Tesla for a few months, purchased used, and sold it when he learned of greater capacity batteries being offered. Point being the car ages poorly in that respect.

I'm sorry but that's like saying. Someone bought a 228i then realized there was a M235i that had a bigger gas tank.
I think it's great Tesla (for now) is regularly improving their cars and not waiting 7 years to do it. Most of them are free software upgrades and anything else they upgrade is typically offered to owners at a discounted rate.
